•Class Description: An introduction of sculpture materials and
techniques. Student explores potential of expressive form, structure, and space in various materials and processes. Study of aesthetics, technique and theoretical concerns as applied to sculpture.

Art 362A. Sculpture Foundry: Investment Casting. (F’05-S'07)
•Class Description: The traditional lost wax techniques of casting non-ferrous metal. Wax formation and manipulation, gating theory and practice. Investment procedures, foundry management, metal casting, patination and tool making.
•Also included in the class: ceramic shell casting, sandcasting using petrobond, resin-bonded sand, lost foam casting, photographing artwork.
•Other duties: Ordering supplies, ceramic shell burnouts, repair and maintenance of the furnaces, kilns, tools and studio.

Class Description: plaster and soft rubber molds.
Also included in the class: ceramic shell casting, sandcasting, photographing artwork.

Furnace Building Workshop, El Camino College, Torrance, CA and Hammer-In Symposium, Bakersfield, CA. Hands-on workshop in which students build their own portable bronze casting furnaces. Since 1994.

Tool Making for the Artist, California State University, Northridge and Santa Monica College, Santa Monica, CA. Hands-on workshop in which students forge and heat-treat their own stone carving chisels. Basic theories of metallurgy and heat-treating discussed. Since 1986.

Jewelry and Ring Making, Society for Creative Anachronism, Milpitas, CA. Hands-on workshops in various locations in Southern California teaching the basic jewelry techniques of cutting, silver soldering, polishing and bezel setting stones as students make their own rings. Since 1987.

Forge Building Workshop, Society for Creative Anachronism, Milpitas, CA. Hands-on workshop in which students help build a bladesmithing forge. 1990.

Knife Making Workshop, Society for Creative Anachronism, Milpitas, CA. Hands-on workshops in various locations in Southern California teaching metallurgy, forging, grinding, heat-treating, and handle-making of knives. Since 1989.

Medieval Metals Technology, Society for Creative Anachronism, Milpitas, CA. A seminar teaching the history of metals technology from the Bronze Age to medieval times. 1994.
